I am extremely thrilled to announce that I am the latest to join the Google Glass Explorers. I just picked up my Glass last week and thought I would post a couple of pictures of the unboxing.
The Glass box is what you would expect for a higher-end device that has been described by some as “the tech geek’s Lamborghini”. Just shy of a shoe box, the Google Glass is prominently displayed on the top layer with the peripherals below.
The accessories Glass comes with include:
- Glass Bag / Protector (which is a soft bag with a harder bottom almost like an elongated glasses case)
- Wall Charger
- USB Charging cable (flat cord)
- Sunglass attachments
- Extra nose buds
Since this weekend was a holiday here in Canada, I haven’t had much time to ramp up with the device - but my first reaction is that I am pretty blown away. I have a Pebble Smartwatch, have played with the Sony Smartwatch and have seen some pretty high tech futuristic stuff at a couple of conferences but this device really impressed me. It is the first device that I have put on that really gave me a sense that I was leap frogging into the future.
I do have to say that getting it all setup wasn’t exactly the easiest but this was mostly due to the fact that you have to get used to a whole new interface language with head tilts, glass-arm tapping and swiping and voice.
The night that I got it I was up until 1AM playing around. This was the first time I can remember staying up with new tech where my giddiness outweighed my exhaustion since when I was a kid and got my first Nintendo.
Look for my first official review on the device later this week, hopefully including some reactions of people seeing me walk with it down the streets of Toronto.
