Comparing 3D Printers: $500 to $3500

Maker Shed has a great chart comparing 3D printers available for purchase.

Its great to see that for only $500 you can get access to this type of technology (albeit the print volume is very small). The MakerBot Replicator is the highest priced 3D printer on this chart at over $2000 but it has more print volume and is a faster printing machine. The MakerBot Replicator also has more of a wait time to delivery according to the chart (which may or may not speak to its popularity).

When looking at a 3D printer price is not the only factor. Print volume is critical when selecting these devices and you have to consider what exactly you will be printing to make sure that your printer can handle printing large enough items.

Not included in this chart are printers from FormLabs & Cubify. Personally, if I had the dough kicking around - I would be looking at the MakerBot Replicator, FormLabs and Cubify printers due to the fact that they are both functional and have a sense of design.

The Cubify’s CubeX goes for $2500 and FormLabs’s Form1 is over $3000.
